Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (the Tax Office) publishes a host of tax reliefs designed to cover most work related costs. This is not an exhaustive list, but these are most common tax rebates received by Glaswegians. Which ones apply to you?

Uniform Tax Refund in Glasgow

If you wear any type of work uniform you could claim for two possible work related expenses. Nurses, cabin crew, police, shop workers, leisure centre staff – literally any job with any uniform is applicable.

Tools and Protective Clothing Glasgow Tax Rebate

Most skilled tradespeople would agree that they buy at least some of the tools and protective clothing they need for work and they are all eligible for tax relief (as long as you are not reimbursed by your employer).

Trade Union and Professional bodies

Many professional organisations and Trade Unions have negotiated a deal with HMRC so that their members can reclaim the tax paid on their membership fees; this includes UNISON and the RCN.

Glasgow Travel Expenses Tax Relief

Being required to travel between different work locations is an eligible tax relief. This applies to public transport including overground trains and the underground or the bus and using your own car, motorbike or van. Unfortunately this doesn’t include your usual daily commute to a permanent workplace.
